The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was convicted of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and sentenced more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after fresh information came to light.

This encompassed attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a summons to a public vigil that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a document approving the arrest, the judge said data from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the former leader's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His child, his son Flávio, who serves as a senator, called for a assembly of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

The senator wrote on online platforms on last Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your country, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your settee? I urge you to battle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so backers could offer prayers for his health and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's determination was the potential of his "relocation to embassies near the dwelling, considering that the inquiries revealed a record of organizing to request asylum through a embassy office", a declaration said.

The court filing underscores that the US embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is located around approximately 13 kilometers from Bolsonaro's home.

Worldwide Consequences

His judicial problems have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist American leader President Trump, prompting him to enact a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

He is being kept in a Federal Police station in Brasilia and will have a imprisonment assessment on the next day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on the previous day that the his legal team asked the Supreme Court to authorize him to serve his whole jail sentence under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.

They also asked that Bolsonaro be allowed to exit his dwelling for medical care, saying he needed ongoing care for respiratory ailments and other illnesses.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was found guilty of heading a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the presidential race to his left-wing rival, Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he knew of a plot which included plans to kill his opponent and his VP candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill Alexandre de Moraes - the High Court judge who has been presiding over the former president's case.

The scheme was stopped because it couldn't obtain the support of the military leaders. The current president was inaugurated without problem on the first day of 2023.

But a seven days after, on January 8th, numerous Bolsonaro supporters attacked and damaged government buildings in the federal district, the capital city.

The law enforcement stepped in and around fifteen hundred individuals were taken into custody.

The justices found that the rioters had been incited by Bolsonaro whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to step in, restore order and return him to office.

At the period, the legal team called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also banned from seeking elected position until 2060 - eight years after the completion of his term.

The ex-leader called the trial a "witch hunt and said it was intended to stop him participating in the next presidential race.
