Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after that period of that year.

The win also means the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
